![]() ![]() ![]() With Final Fantasy XVI also on the way – due to launch exclusively on PS5 in 2021 – Square Enix have a full slate, but that hasn’t stopped us from greedily plotting in our heads what other dream Final Fantasy projects we’d like to see. We’re still in a state of FF7 mania and while it’s easy to get caught up in it all, we’re hoping that Square Enix will know when to apply the brakes before steering fans into an all too familiar state of fatigue. If the rampant success of Final Fantasy VII Remake wasn’t enough, Square recently launched FF7R Intergrade – a beefy expansion starring fan favourite character Yuffie. Right now, there’s plenty of FF action to go around. Although Square Enix are planning to re-release the first six Final Fantasy games as part of their upcoming Pixel Remaster Collection for PC and mobile, we’re likely to see these titles spruced up instead of being rebuilt entirely. I guess I’ll play Live A Live in the meantime. With many golden era JRPGs of the 1990s making a comeback, it’s about time we finally had a proper Final Fantasy VI remake. And it looks like I’m going to still have to wait a long time for that. I love Final Fantasy VI, and I’ve been waiting for a definitive version of the game - one that features the superior translation, bug fixes, and additional content from the Game Boy Advance version but with better sound and visuals. If any 16-bit JRPG deserves the full HD 2D conversion, its Final Fantasy VI. On top of all that, Square Enix apparently is giving Final Fantasy VI’s remaster the HD 2D treatment … for a couple of sequences. Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster looks … weird.Īnd then Live A Live, a JRPG I imagine most people have never even heard of, is getting a remake that looks stunning. The detailed, flat backgrounds look out of step with the simple, dark-outlined character sprites. The Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster looks OK-to-disappointing. Especially Final Fantasy VI, one of the greatest RPGs of all time, which is getting its remastered released on February 23 for PC and mobile. I’m mad because this looks so much better than Square Enix’s efforts with the Pixel Remasters of the first six Final Fantasy games. ![]()
